Wake up classmates, you just lost a customer

Classmates, you just lost a customer. Why you ask? Well I have for long time been spammed by your service for me to join at some payment level. Yes, I did make a free account ten (10) years ago, but since then I have asked to stop receiving your marketing a few times now with the latest being 1 month ago. Today? well I went to unsubscribe today and I ended up going through a web page hell to finally have you remove my email address again. what happened? I got four (count them!, four web pages before confirming I was removed.

  1. I had to login to remove myself (not an email addy or usename, but some 9 digit number I didn't recall)
  2. Got the "Verify the email on the website was right" page, click remove
  3. Got another page that said PLEASE DON'T leave us page with offers, click remove again
  4. finally presented with a you have been unsubscribed (again) and will take effect in ten (10) days.

At this point, it's time for me to cancel the account and get out of this system. You obviously aren't Can-Spam compliant.

Let me paste a few excerpts from the MAAWG Sender Best Communications Practices

Enable Clear, Conspicuous, and Easy to Use Unsubscribe Options

  • Senders should make the unsubscribe process as clear and easy to use as reasonably possible.
  • Senders should process unsubscribe requests as quickly as reasonably possible and with the recipient in mind.
  • Senders should use text descriptions, instead of images, to accompany hyperlinks to a one-click online unsubscribe web page.

As a friend said today, one wonders if subscribing involves as many hurdles.  One supposes not.

I am quitting classmates for the same exact reason. I do not want their #$^#$^ SPAM. Other websites are much more polite in allowing you to unsubscribe. I am quitting classmates purely because it is annoying me with their spam. If they were a good service that showed they cared about their users then they would have a much larger following. Too bad their bad anti-user-friendly tactics has them ruined.
