Yahoo! MTA Connectivity Problems

Yahoo! is having some MTA connectivity problems, from the Postmaster Blog:

If you're seeing some queuing in your outbounds today when sending to Y! users,
we're currently experiencing low connectivity across our MTAs, which started
this morning. We're working to get things back to normal.

The SMTP error message being generated by the issue should be:

"420 Resources unavailable temporarily. Please try later <insert Y! MTA hostname>"

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

In addition to the 420s it appears as though 421s are increasing so expect to see a few flavors of message deferred in your logs.

    Wonderful feedback, Len…

Good news: Their MTAs' connectivity levels are stable and back to normal. Update about an hour ago or so :)

I don't think this is fixed as of today (Feb 2, 2010) as one of my clients on MDaemon 10.1.1 is still getting this error. Anyone else?

I agree. I'm still seeing huge numbers of 420s and such.

I touched base with a few clients who see sporadic deferrals. It sounds like the problem is improved but there may be some backlog. I'd say make sure you're still waiting four hours between deferrals.

Thanks for the article and updates on this… :)

We are seeing the same stuff again today… if anything last night was even worse we are seeing repeated 420 to mta1042.mail.re4.yahoo.com and numerous other MTA's for Yahoo in our communication failures.

Frustrating thing with Yahoo has always been there is no actual person you can talk to like you can with Gmail, AOL or any other major mail ISP… just forms and oh lets not forget the customer survey that always comes when they have never talked to you…

Looks like they're aware – so that's good! I really appreciate Carlo keeping us up to date.

There is a known issue with yahoo not accepting emails over 2Meg from some MTAs. With corrispondence with Yahoo Support, Yahoo have advised they are unable to investigate the issue further. On the MTA I support, I have to manually delete stuck emails addressed to yahoo.com addresses, so subsequent emails can be successfully sent to other yahoo.com addresses

Has anyone seen a lot more 420 Resource errors as of 7/19/2010?
